Textiles

For my Textiles work my idea is to create nature inspired prints as a large wall hanging and possibly displayed on to loose clothing. Throughout my project I have researched designers who also looks at nature in their work. I aim to continue creating a strong design process, researching, drawing, designing and experimenting using a variety of techniques creating samples. I aim to continue experimenting with prints on a variety of fabrics observing what works well and what doesn’t. I will also work on top of the samples already created and continue to work and develop my digital prints.  I aim to have a collection of physical prints, varying in processors developing layers of hand printed pieces and digitally printed prints creating large wall hanging pieces.

Research

For my textiles research I have looked at a variety of artists and designers that use similar techniques and nature inspired imagery in their prints in which I am interested. Below is a link to my Pinterest Textiles Research board. I have also featured below some prints and designers that I find inspirational that help me to continue to design and develop my own work.

Louise Tiler

I often use Louise Tiler's work as inspiration for my own. I like the imagery she uses, her soft fluid forms are almost dreamlike. I also like how she works in layers and uses a soft pastel colour palette, although with my own work I prefer bright vibrant colours.

Laura Olivia

I like how she contrast colour and drawings in her prints, some fine lines and other block prints. I also like her imagery, that she works in layers and how subtle her designs are.

Digital Design

For my Digital project I have decided to create a jewellery collection using my C.A.D skills in CorelDraw and SolidWorks creating laser cut and 3D designs. The aim of my project to date is to design and develop a collection of jewellery, jewellery hangings and digital designed boxes or containers in order to present my pieces.  Although I will continue to create designs with a theme of nature which links to my textile work I am also interested with geometric shapes. I have, as well as researching nature as a theme looked at geometric patterns in architecture, prints and designers that use this theme in their work. I also think that geometric jewellery fits in with the current market. My CorelDraw designs can be laser cut out of a variety of materials, such as card, fabric and Perspex and my SolidWorks pieces can be 3D printed.

Research

Throughout my project I have looked at relevant jewellery pieces, artists and designers that relate well and will help inspire me to develop my designs. Below is a link to my Pinterest Digital research board I have also featured some key designs I have used for inspiration and why I like them.

Jewellery by Shani Jacobi

I like the different sections to this piece, how they link together and the contrast in materials I think work well together. She has used wood, perspex and formica selling this piece for

 $69.99, via Etsy.

Boo and Boo Factory

I  love these statement necklaces, I like how busy some are with bright vibrant colours, contrasting materials and interesting shapes. I am also interested in using leather within my own jewellery pieces.

Jewellery hangings

As well as creating a jewellery collection I am also interested in creating jewellery hangings below are some images for research I have used to help with my design process.

Packaging

Packaging is another element to my design work. I would like to create simple but interesting packaging that reference my designs in order to display my pieces.
